Difference between UCEED and CEED Entrance exams.

UCEED and CEED are both very prestigious Entrance exams that are held in the country among many others. Both these exams are often confused with each even after being way different from each other. These Exams might seem similar to those who are not much aware of these however they differ from their very basic foundation. UCEED and CEED are both Design related examinations, which might be one of the reasons why many confuse them with each. One of the easiest ways to distinguish between UCEED and CEED is that UCEED is for undergraduates to get into design courses whereas CEED is an entrance exam for masters in design.

There are many other ways they are different from each other. Both the courses have coaching available in all the cities. UCEED coaching can be taken by the candidate while giving their 10+2 while CEED coaching is done usually after graduating.

What is UCEED?

UCEED stands for undergraduate common entrance exam for design. It is conducted by IIT, Bombay. It is an Entrance exam for design courses in IIT Bombay, Jabalpur, Guwahati and so on. The candidate who pursues design graduation has to give this exam to get into the prestigious universities of the country. After the exam, every candidate has to apply to these colleges and according to their score they will be given admission.

What is CEED?

CEED is also known as the common entrance examination of design. It is also conducted by IIT, Bombay however it is for admission to the Masters of Design program at various prestigious colleges like IIT Delhi, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Bombay etc. With the help of CEED, one can also get admission to some PhD programs in design in some universities. Unlike UCEED, CEED is a very broad spectrum of things to cover, it assesses the student’s drawing skills, rationing, creativity, communication skills and many other things, you can find CEED study material PDF on the internet itself.

Difference between the eligibility criteria for UCEED and CEED.

Both the exams have different eligibility criteria that further separate and differentiate them from each other. The eligibility criteria for both the entrance exams are as follows. You can easily identify the difference between them.

UCEED-: Candidates who wish to give the UCEED examination should have passed the qualifying exams 10+2 or equivalent. They can be from any stream, be it science or humanities, they can apply and give this examination. For a secure admission in the B. Des programme, the candidate has to score a rank in the exam and this score will be only valid for the following academic year, which is one year.

CEED-: Similar to UCEED, CEED has certain criteria that make a candidate eligible for giving the exams. The criteria include that the candidate must have completed a 3 years course in any related field after 10+2. They are also required to pass a diploma program known as GDR which is (10+2+3) level. However, the eligibility criteria do not have any limit to the attempts one candidate can get or any age limit for a candidate.

As mentioned above, we can clearly see the difference between the eligibility criteria that exist between UCEED and CEED.

Difference between the exam pattern of UCEED and CEED.

Both UCEED and CEED follow different exam patterns. Even if both are conducted from the same intuition, they have different aims and skills to check therefore there is a difference between their question paper pattern.

UCEED-: The UCEED questions papers are objective. The duration is 3 hours. They carry a total mark of 100 and it is divided into two parts namely A and B parts. Both parts are said to tackle different objectives. Part A is further divided into 3 other sections segregated through marks, on the other side part B is basically meant to test your drawing skill as a candidate who wishes to pursue design.

CEED-: The CEED entrance exam pattern is similar to UCEED in some ways but different in others. The similarity is that they both have an exam duration of 3 hours, and have 2 parts namely A and B.

However, the differences are that they are conducted only in English and have both MCQ and normal questions which are compulsory. Another major difference is that a candidate has to qualify by giving part A first then only they are eligible for giving part B of CEED. Both UCEED and CEED cater to the design courses but at different levels. Therefore, their exam patterns also differ. While UCEED tests the basics, CEED tries to assess a higher level of skill sets. Both CEED and UCEED are treated as very important entrance exams as they determine admission to some of the most prestigious universities in the country right now. Both hold great significance but their eligibility criteria as well patterns make them different from each other.

While it may seem like an insignificant difference, UCEED and CEED are not accepted in all the colleges in the country. Even though both are conducted by IIT Bombay, UCEED helps the candidate to take admission in undergraduate courses in a small number of colleges where CEED are accepted in a wide range of colleges for masters as well for PhD courses all in the design sectors but in different cities. UCEED, as well as CEED, are extremely difficult entrance exams to crack. Only the best out of the best, who are the rank holders, get the opportunity to study in their desired college with the desired course. The rest of the candidates have to opt for private universities. Even though it is difficult, it has not lost its charm. They are still prestigious entrance examinations in our country. CEED and UCEED preparation for 2023 by any candidate should have already been started, they should be registered online and then only they will be eligible to give the examination in the coming year.

Hopefully, with the above-mentioned distinction between UCEED and CEED, you will be able to understand the difference between them.
