The Study Material for NID and CEED Preparation

The NID, DAT and CEED exams are not easy as a lot of candidates compete for a few seats. Thus, preparation from proper study material or coaching institutes is very important. NID

NID Design Aptitude Test, commonly known as the NID DAT is conducted by the National Institute of Design for admission to various graduate and postgraduate design courses. The exam is conducted in two stages- NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT mains. The exam is conducted in three stages- written (3-hour test in pen and paper), studio test and personal interview.

The NID DAT Prelims is 30 marks and NID DAT Mains is 70 marks, where the prelims exam consists of 22 objective type questions and 4 subjective type questions. The candidates are evaluated on the following grounds- Knowledge, Comprehension, Analysis, Creativity and Visualisation. The studio test consists of questions for the following groups- drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions and presentations. Candidates who perform well in the studio round are selected for the personal interview round which is help separately for each specialization. The ranks of the candidates are decided on the basis of marks obtained in the Prelims and Mains round where the weightage is 70% for Prelims marks and 30% for Mains marks. Candidates can apply for more than one specialization in which case the candidate has to give the Prelims exam once and the two disciple-specific tests.

CEED

CEED or Common Entrance test for Design is conducted by IIT Bombay every year for admission into the Masters of Design programs offered by any college accepting CEED scores. It is not easy to crack the program and the candidates are tested on their drawing and designing skills. The key to cracking the exam is being creative and thinking out of the box. Candidates are also tested on their general awareness, logical reasoning and general aptitude. To secure a good rank and get the college that you want, you must have a proper preparation plan and the appropriate study materials. Joining a coaching institute is a very good idea as you can get proper guidance from experienced professionals as well as all the reference books and study materials for self-study. 

The CEED exam is conducted in two stages- Part A and Part B, where only the students who clear Part A are allowed to sit for Part B exam and the rank is given on the basis of the Part B exam only.  Part A consists of Numerical Answer Types, Multiple Select and Multiple Choice questions. Part B has 5 sections- Sketching, Creativity, Form Sensitivity, Visual Sensitivity and Problem Identification, each section consists of 1 question with 20 marks.

Although IIT Bombay does not recommend any books or study material, the list is decided on the basis of the questions asked.

To score good marks in the CEED exam you would need to enhance your creativity and will have to solve previous years’ questions.
